The Harmony Patriarchs Club
Presents the 65th Annual
2012 Harmony Free
Fair
Welcome to the 65th Harmony Free Fair. It's going to be a great fair
this year. Cushing Amusements is returning again with a full midway. The stage
entertainment will be outstanding with varied acts ranging from bluegrass to
Saturday night’s 20 piece swing band along with lots of country music and
Harmony's own Friday Nite Jammers.
Two of our most popular events, the
demolition derby and the truck pulls, will be back with improvements being made
to both arenas. We also need to remember that we are an Agricultural fair. With
that in mind, we will again have horse pulling, oxen pulling, and expanded 4H
shows. Our animal barns will be full of livestock and there will be people on
hand that can answer any questions you may have about animal care. Speaking of
livestock, the
Harmony Free Fair has been awarded a grant that will help
with the construction of a new livestock building. This building will include a
special fiber area as well as a large barn area to house more livestock.
Donations for this building are needed and will be greatly appreciated. It is
our hope that the building will be completed in time for the 2013
fair.
Members of the Patriarchs Club meet after the fair each year to
discuss suggestions people have made during the fair. This year two things stood
out and we have addressed them. The first was the need for bathrooms by the
demolition derby pit. That will be done. We also need to assist people that have
trouble making that walk from Main Street onto the fair grounds. To address this
we are opening the demolition pit for handicap parking for
Friday, Sunday,
and Monday. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we also will have a horse and wagon
transporting people from Main Street up to the
fair grounds. The driver is
volunteering this service so I am sure she will appreciate any tip you can offer
her as a thank you.
So what else is going on this year? Fireworks, pig
scramble, games and contests, magic shows, frog jumping, gross games, and Krazy
ball.
Remember to buy a prize ticket (or several) for a chance to win some great prizes. New
this year, our Bingo tent will be paying
out CASH!
So what happens with the money that you spend having a
great time at the fair? Well, the easy answer is that it gets put back into your
community
Here is a list of a few things we have done this year: $1000
Scholarship award, $1000 donation to the music department at Harmony Elementary
School, $250 donation for flags on Main Street, $100 donation to the art
department at Harmony Elementary School, $250 donation to the Harmony
Fire
Dept, $100 donation to the Harmony Community Center. We also sponsored Fishing
Day for the kids, an ATV safety class, a trip to Maine
State Museum and the
State House for the 8th grade Harmony students and the opportunity for the older
girls at Harmony Elementary School to
attend the Hardy Girls Healthy Women
Program - a program that empowers young women. We also supply the sound system
for town meetings and
many school events as well lend out our tables and
chairs for events. The Harmony Free Fair/Harmony Patriarchs Club has received
several
awards in the last few years. We have received two more awards since
the last fair. The first was presented by the Maine Agricultural Fair
Association
for the Best Premium Fair Book for a Small Fair. The second was
from the Maine Spirit of America Foundation for Outstanding Community
Service.
The Patriarchs Club is open to anyone who has an interest in the
Harmony Free Fair or our community. Please contact one of our members if any of
you folks would like to join the Patriarchs Club or volunteer a few hours to
help out before or during the fair. It's a nice way to give back to the
community and a way to meet some great people.
SEE YOU AT THE
FAIR,
